How to cure a flu?

Oh drag. It is a Monday morning. The sun is barely up. You let out a terrible sneeze and wheezed, cursing to yourself, 'Argh, Monday blues.'

'Must be due to all the midnight oil burning last night,' you explained to yourself. You dragged your feet to the kitchen, looking for something.

'Ah,' you exclaimed as you found what you were looking for. You took out two flu relief pills and slowly popped them into your mouth...

STOP.

Now, now. Before you put anything artificial and man-made into your biological system, read what I have to say. This article will fill you in on steps to cure yourself from a flu, the natural and safe way.

Before we start, let's talk about the background information about the cold. Those desperate for a cure are most welcomed to skip this paragraph. Believe it or not, those flu symptoms you're experiencing are part of a natural healing process -- they are evidence that your immune system is hard at work in an epic battle against a certain virus or bacteria that attacked your body when you didn't notice. The last thing you would want to do is to consume some artificial medication which does nothing except suppress the symptoms and leave your poor immune system alone in the fight against evil. Let's do something more constructive, shall we? After all, this is your body we are talking about. This is your fight too!

No. 1: Blow Your Nose Often -- the Right Way
All the mucus flowing down from your nose non-stop sure is disgusting, isn't it? However, do you know mucus actually contains dead cells of bacteria and your body's very own police force -- white blood cells and antibodies (think of it as casualties of war.)? Think twice next time before you decided to pinch your nose when you feel a big sneeze is coming. No way would you want to send those junk back into your body. Not to mention that the sudden build up of pressure in your head is damaging to your ear drums. I have also seen people stuffing tissue papers into their noses to stop the mucus from following. They have no idea what hazardous substances are they trapping in their heads!

Instead, blow your nose regularly. But when you blow hard, pressure can cause an earache. The best way to blow your nose: Press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently to clear the other. Wash your hands after blowing your nose. Remember to use tissue paper or a hanky and please be mindful and dispose the bio-hazard accordingly. You have no idea how many millions of living bacteria you just excrete out of your body.

Some children have problems blowing their noses. Instead, they sniff the harmful stuff right back into their head. Nothing to worry about because right after they swallow the mucus, the mucus will be discharged from the body when they visit the washroom. The only disadvantage is that the harmful bacteria takes a longer time and route to be leave the body.

No. 2: Drink LOTS of hot fluids
No need to look for boiling hot fluids, warm will do. The best fluid to drink would be plain water, the universal solvent. We are not talking about soft drinks here, no shit. Hot liquids relieve nasal congestion, help prevent dehydration, and can soothe the uncomfortably inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat. Moreover all the fluids would help to dilute the harmful toxins in your body.

The body is made up of 70% water so no doubt water is good for you. So, BOTTOMS UP!

No. 3: Gargle
Gargling can moisten a sore throat and bring temporary relief. Try a teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water, four times daily. It works like magic, better than any artificial sore throat syrup.

If you want something more exotic you may try this recipe I read somewhere. Steep one tablespoon of raspberry leaves or lemon juice in two cups of hot water; mix with one teaspoon of honey. Let the mixture cool to room temperature before gargling. Remember to keep honey away from children less than 1 year old!

No. 4: Take a Steamy Shower
Steamy showers moisturize your nasal passages and relax you anytime even without a flu!

No. 5: Stay Rested
Resting when you first come down with a cold or the flu helps your body direct its energy toward the immune battle. This battle drains the body. So give it a helping hand by lying down under a blanket and not waste any unnecessary energy moving around.

You may try sleeping with an extra pillow under your head. This will help with the drainage of nasal passages. If the angle is too awkward, try placing the pillows between the mattress and the box springs to create a more gradual slope!

Of course most of you guys have too much work to do and can't afford a moment to rest. Think about it, resting for awhile and working again when you are re-energized beats working with a dreaded running nose. So, STAY DOWN.

Remember, blow your nose often, drink LOTS of water regularly, gargle your mouth, take a hot steamy shower, stay rested and get well soon!

Also take note that flu may also be a symptom for something more serious. So if you are not feeling better after a few days, do yourself a favour and visit the doctor. Cheers!
